Game Recap

For the first district tournament game the Sailors traveled to Otsego and took care of business. South controlled the first half and looked to break things open after getting into Otsego’s box a number of times before finally converting a Cassidy Broekhuizen cross into a well placed redirected shot from Caitlin Bergsma at the near post. But that would be it for the half and South would need to protect what they had before finding some relief in the second half. That relief came by way of Mackenzie Selvius who scored 3 goals in about an 8 minute span. Set up beautifully by teammates Joz VanTol, Chloe Smith and Emma DeVries, with crosses and slotted passes, Selvius used her speed and perfectly timed runs to finish three big chances to put the game out of reach for Otsego. The scoring was completed by Savannah Bosselaar on a ball from Tori Vonk and then freshmen Emma DeVries added to her assist with her first varsity goal off of a rebound from her own shot into an empty net. The shutout was secured by Mikayla Johnson and the wizardry quickness of Ellie VanZee who came up with a point blank kick save near the end of the match.
South travels to Unity on Thursday for the next tournament game at 5pm.
