Multiple Teams · Sailor Freshman Softball Splits with Byron Center

The Sailor girls bounced back from a 7-13 loss in the first game of Thursday’s double-header versus Byron Center to win the second game 10-9. Jessie Walters put up a good fight in game 1 by walking only 2 batters in 5 innings, but Byron’s bats couldn’t be stopped as they put up 13 runs. Ashley Carver struck out 5 batters in the second game, with Walters catching a solid game behind the plate. Down by 3 runs in the last inning, the Sailors rallied to get on top with key singles from Savannah Potgeter, Carlie Boomsma, and Walters, and a double from Jessica Huizinga, to score 4 runs and put them ahead on the scoreboard. Carver only allowed 3 batters to the plate in the last inning with the Sailor’s solid defense behind her to secure the Sailor’s win by one.
