[complete_gallery id=”8752″ class=”alignnone” ]On Saturday, October 6th, the South Christian cheerleaders spent their evening cheering on walkers who participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night walk. For the second year in a row, members of the South cheer squad were stationed at various points along the walking route. Their job was to encourage and motivate the walk participants in the brisk night air. The route began behind the David Hunting YMCA, went south a block, then east to the river, north along the riverfront to Michigan Avenue, east across the Michigan bridge, then south along the river boardwalk and wrapping around up to the pedestrian bridge and back to the YMCA. Participants in the walk either know someone fighting a blood cancer or has lost a loved one to the disease. There were also amazing survivors walking the route. As the walkers came to the end of the route, they walked a path lit on both sides with decorated paper bag lumieres in honor of loved ones lost. In addition, when checking in at the end, the volunteer organizer said they were thrilled with the energy and positive attitude of the South Christian students, and wanted to know if there were more South students willing to be involved in the years to come.
