The JV Girls basketball team posted its largest win of the season, beating the Huskies of Forest Hills Northern by 40 points, with a final score of 64-24! It was a quick start for the Sailors, jumping out to a 14-point lead before the Huskies would find their first points of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Sailors were in firm control of the contest, leading 23-4. Forest Hills Northern outscored the Sailors 9-5 in the second quarter, as the Sailors took a 28-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
It was an explosion of the Sailor offense in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 17-5 in the third quarter and 19-6 in the fourth quarter.
Sailor Coach Pam VanderYacht said her squad “had a great start and never looked back. It was our first game with fewer than 15 turnovers. It was also a solid game on the boards, with every player collecting rebounds.” VanderYacht pointed out two players that stood out in the contest, “Jenn DeBoer had a solid all-around game, scoring 24 points. Maddie Herrema picked up a double-double, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.”
In addition to DeBoer’s 24 points, and Herrema’s 12, other scoring leaders for the Sailors included Emily Kalmink with 8 points, and Nicole VanderYacht with 7 points.
Next up for the Sailors: travel to Catholic Central Thursday for another OK-Gold Conference match-up. Next week will mark the team’s final week of play, with home games against Ottawa Hills on Tuesday, and Hastings Thursday.
