Grand Rapids South Christian’s Karie VanSledright rolled her competition, knocking down 657 pins, as the Sailors won their second straight conference title.
“I started coaching (at South Christian) three years ago, and there were five sophomores on the team,” South Christian coach Gordy Fransen said. “I could tell they had something special. I told them back then I had a good feeling about them.”
VanSledright, a senior, was consistent throughout, with scores of 211, 219 and 227.
“She’s been unbelievable lately,” Fransen said. “She had a 299 game in practice this week. Everything is coming together for her, right now.”
South Christian’s Shelby Holbrook finished sixth with 515 pins, while Michelle Edelyn was ninth (500). The Sailors had a team score of 3165.
Bryon Center was second (3045) and Hudsonville Unity Christian took third (2869).
Bryon Center’s Kasadie Crittendon took second with a 608, followed by Wayland Union’s Emily Fifelski (589).
