Grand Rapids South Christian won its Division 3 regional with a score of 3,242 at Park Center Lanes, while Belding and Wyoming Kelloggsville also advanced with second and third place finishes.
“When I started three years ago, I had five sophomore girls,” South Christian coach Gordy Fransen said. “Everyone was 6’6, and I felt like I’d inherited a basketball team with lots of potential. I knew if they stuck together, they could be really good their senior year.
“When they bowled the second regular game today, we knew we’d made it. We have six really good bowlers, and We needed all six of them today. We will need them all next weekend, too.” The team bowls in the Division 3 championship next Friday in Battle Creek.
Karie VanSledright led the Sailors with a 529 series, followed by sister Krista with a 500 and Laura Kuipers with a 490.
Belding finished just 35 pins behind South Christian with a 3,207, highlighted by a 232 in the second Baker game.
