Girls Varsity Golf · Varsity Girls Golf Team are Regional Champions for 2018

The rich tradition of reaching the state finals in girls golf continued on today for the South Christian Sailors.  The girls rose to the challenge of defending their regional title and won the Division 3 Region 14 by 17 strokes.  The weather started out dry with a little wind, but by the middle of the round the rains came in and the wind picked up.  The team’s determination really showed through by each and every player on the team; whether they were playing in the top 5 or cheering the team on while getting drenched from the rain.

Natalie Samdal took second place out of 60 golfers with her score of 81.  Maddie Wierenga took fifth place overall with a score of 86.  Ashley Keen was tied for 10th place by shooting a 90.  Kate Hoekwater took 29th place overall with a score of 106 and Jamie Keegstra who filled in last minute for Sara VanSolkema who hurt her knee took 35th place overall with a score of 109.

The Girls golf team has now earned a place at the state finals for over 20 consecutive years now.  This year’s state finals take place at Forest Akers East course at MSU in East Lansing on October 19 & 20.  Play begins at 10am both days.  It is a great day to be a Sailor!
