MHSAA Boys Golf – Division 3 State Finals
Katke Golf Course – Ferris State University
The MHSAA will be using a “ live scoring method” that we are using in boys golf, at the Division 3 Boys Golf State finals. While live scoring has become the norm at many PGA, NCAA and other high profile amateur golf events, it is relatively new to the high school golf world.
We are partnering with a live scoring company called Birdiefire ( www.birdiefire.com ) to develop a method for giving coaches, parents, peers and others instant access to live scores every three holes directly from Katke whether they are there or not.
While normal MHSAA scoring protocol will exist for the tournament where only the posted scores at the end of an round will be official, Birdiefire will allow us to give out a website address and have anybody follow the entire tournament live from their computer or smartphone. The best thing about this new system is that it is completely FREE at this time.
The impact that it will have on your players and teams is that it will require your players to verbally state their scores to course volunteers at 6 designated spots during their round. The entire threesome will simply verbally state their names and scores at the designated spots to the course volunteer and move on to the next hole. We want you as coaches to be aware of this, so that you can work with your players on this “new” system and so that it is not a surprise for you.
More information on Birdiefire, the website and on course instructions will be talked about at the coaches and players meetings on Friday morning at Katke.
The direct link to the BirdieFire live scoring system for MHSAA Division 3 is : http://bfire.co/-9c674/ Please feel free to give out this link to your parents, fans and others so they can follow along with the action from Big Rapids. Please remember that this link will not be active until Friday morning when the Division 3 Golf Final starts at 9:00 a.m.
We hope that you will find the Birdiefire live scoring system to be beneficial to your parents and others who might not be able to physically make it to Big Rapids on Friday and Saturday and provide a new way of “watching” high school golf in Michigan. We are planning on using live scoring going forward as a way to enhance the tournament experience for all.
