The South Christian Sports Complex was the setting of the last home cross country meet for the class of 2021. The Covenant Christian Chargers brought some tough competition to the field, but the SCHS cross country teams were still able to claim decisive victories.
The men’s team swept the Chargers, earning a perfect score of 15! The men’s team was led by Sam Westra who finished first with a time of 17:35.8. Crossing the line right on Sam’s heels was Caleb Boes, running a time of 17:36.0. The 3rd place spot went to Ethan Luurtsema who crossed the line at 17:46. Lucas VanDam and Hendrik Nykamp finished in the 4th and 5th place positions, with times of 17:54 and 17:58 respectively. Brandon DeVries and Ethan Sculley were the 6th and 7th finishers for the men, running times of 18:11 and 18:15.
The SC ladies faced a challenge, but were able to come away victorious with a score of 26, beating the Chargers by just 5 points! Emily Langerak finished first for the Sailors in 3rd with a time of 20:50. Not far behind was Ellia Agar in 4th place, running a time of 20:58.9. Abby Winkle finished in 5th place, less than a second behind Ellia, with a time of 20:59.7. Mallory Huttenga finished in 6th place for the Lady Sailors with a time of 21:01. Moriah Lanning crossed the line in the 8th position, finishing in 21:10. Sarah Lanning and Carly Meulenberg finished in the 9th and 12th positions, running times of 21:17 and 21:42.
The conclusion of the meet brought Senior Day and a chance to honor the senior athletes, their parents, and the contributions they all have made to the South Christian Cross Country Team throughout their high school careers. The leadership that these athletes have shown this season has been invaluable and they have been a blessing to our team in so many ways. Thank you SENIORS! May God continue to bless you in the future.
