Sailors News · JV Boys Return to Campus with 2nd Long Distant Victory

The Sailors traveled north on a beautiful Tuesday for a game against the Red Hawks of Cedar Springs.  The Red Hawks came out with a 1-2-2 defense to slow down the Sailor’s high scoring offense.  It was the first time the Sailors seen this type of defense and it was working with missed shots and turnovers.  The Sailors turned this around with some last-minute defense to capture the lead, 13-6.  The Sailors started the second quarter with steals and quick baskets to increase their lead at half, 32-17.  Cedar Spring half time adjustments included a zone offense in which the Sailors handled with ease along with Cedar Springs fouls continue to build their lead, 52-31.  The fourth quarter was made up with a good defense and some patience on the offense to take home their 7th victory, 72-42.  The Sailors shot 47% from the field and continue to struggle at the free throw line shooting 54%.  The team had 32 rebounds and 15 assists.  Jake Vermaas lead the scoring with 11, Sawyer TenHaaf 10, Cam Post 9, Maddox VanderLaan 8, Nick Bultje 8, Eric DeWeerd 8, Sam Bos 7, Jaxson Rynbrandt 5, Seth Ritsema 5, and Nate Brinks 1.   The Sailors travel to face Kenowa Hills Thursday, February 26 for a 5:30 pm contest.
