The Sailors traveled to Rockford on Friday afternoon to play two 5-inning contests against the Rams in
what has become an annual tradition with the two coaches.
In the first game, South scored a run in the top of the first with 3 singles and a sacrifice bunt. Rockford
answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 3 runs with a single, a couple of walks, and a sailor
error. South drew to within 3-2 in the 3 rd , highlighted by a double by Lauren Tiesma. However, Rockford
scored 3 more in the bottom of the third on 2 walks and 2 doubles. The Sailors could get no closer and
fell by a final score of 8-3, despite outhitting the Rams 8-4. Tiesma and Ashley Reardon each had 2 hits,
including a double, and Aleah Miedema added a double. Renee Broekhuizen had 2 RBIs.
In Game 2, the Sailor bats were unable to get anything going. The Sailors were held to just 1 hit and lost
by a final score of 9-1. Rockford’s five-run second inning was too much for the Sailors to overcome.
The Sailors record now stands at 13-7. After a long week against some tough competition, the Sailors
host Covenant Christian on Monday and Ottawa Hills on Tuesday before a mini-break because of prom.
