The Sailors hosted perennial conference power Wayland on Thursday afternoon and came up short in
both games of a doubleheader, losing 14-4 and 12-4. Their record now stands at 13-5, 4-2 in conference
In the first game, Wayland scored 5 runs in the top of the first inning with the benefit of only 2 singles,
but also used a couple walks, and a hit batter to their advantage. The Sailors scored 4 runs in the
bottom of the second inning to draw to within 6-4. The inning was highlighted by a double by Olivia
Baar and a single by Lauren Tiesma. Unfortunately, the Sailors couldn’t put much together offensively
after that and Wayland continued to add to their lead. Wayland only outhit the Sailors 9-8 for the game,
but 8 walks and 3 hit batters issued by the Sailor pitchers were too much to overcome.
In the nightcap, South scored a single run in the second inning on a HR to left-center field by Ashley
Raredon. They added 3 more in the 3rd on an error and 4 singles to take a 4-3 lead into the 4th inning.
Unfortunately, the wheels came off a bit in the bottom of the 4th . Wayland scored 6 runs after a 2-out
Sailor error to take a 9-4 lead. The sailors only managed one hit the rest of the way.
The Sailors will try to put this day behind them as they travel to battle the tough Rockford Rams in two
5-inning games on Friday.
