JV Boys Hoops beats Coopersville 56-45

By Jeff Krosschell | Feb 17, 2026 8:28 AM

Coopersville came into the contest with an impressive 18-2 record on the season. The sailors were 17-2, and the game provided the excitement you'd expect. Coopersville is a talented team that plays their system well, making things difficult for opponents and forces them to play outside their normal style. The sailors were up for the challenge and used their physical style of defense to stay in the game until their offense took hold. The broncos started well, jumping out to a 13-9 lead after the first quarter. The sailors ratcheted up their defense holding the broncos to six 2nd quarter points while scoring 12 of their own to take a slim 21-29 advantage into halftime. The broncos responded after half as the game opened up offensively. In a back and forth affair with no team having more than a 6 point lead, the two teams found themselves knotted 36-36 going into the 4th. In the 4th, the sailors went on a tear. Cam In'tHout started things off with an old fashion 3-point play of a beautiful pass from Kolin Younce. A couple possessions later Sal Padilla found Tyler Krosschell open on the break who calmly knocked in a big three. One possession later a Kolin Younce found Sal Padilla open for another 3 opening the lead to 9 points. The sailors continued to get stops and went on a 15-0 run to start the 4th, which cruised them to the 56-45 victory on the road. Tyler Krosschell led all scorers with 14, and Ethan Smith scored 12. Kolin Younce added excellent passing in the zone and the defense was a true team effort. Sailors play again Tuesday @ Wyoming at 4pm. They are 18-2 overall and looking to win the conference title outright with a win at Wyoming today.
