Emma Bennink Drives 4 Runners Home In South Christian Sailors Varsity Victory Over Grand Rapids Christian Emma Bennink drove in four runs on two hits to lead South Christian Sailors Varsity past Grand Rapids Christian 17-4 on Monday at South Christian High School. Bennink hit a home run to left field in the third inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring two. South Christian Sailors Varsity were the first to get on the board in the first when Masynn Burgess hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. South Christian Sailors Varsity committed an error, which helped Grand Rapids Christian tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the top of the third, South Christian Sailors Varsity broke up the tie when a wild pitch scored one run. Then a home run to left field by Bennink followed to extend the lead to 4-1. South Christian Sailors Varsity scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth inning. Zayda Burke hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Cassidy Fisk tripled, scoring one run, Burgess singled, scoring one run, Maddy DeVries singled, scoring one run, Bennink singled, scoring two runs, and Emma VandenBerg hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. South Christian Sailors Varsity scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Fisk singled, scoring one run, a dropped third strike scored one run, Burgess singled, scoring one run, and an error scored three runs. VandenBerg earned the win for South Christian Sailors Varsity. The righty surrendered two hits and four runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking four. Mersman took the loss for Grand Rapids Christian. The reliever went one and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking none. Mcwilliams started the game for Grand Rapids Christian. The pitcher gave up 10 hits and nine runs (five earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. South Christian Sailors Varsity piled up 16 hits in the game. Fisk and DeVries each collected three hits for South Christian Sailors Varsity. Addi Sherwood, VandenBerg, and Burgess each collected multiple hits for South Christian Sailors Varsity. Fisk and Sherwood each stole multiple bases for South Christian Sailors Varsity. South Christian Sailors Varsity stole seven bases in the game. Mcwilliams and Holmam were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Grand Rapids Christian. Cummings and Simpson were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Grand Rapids Christian.
