Maddy DeVries’s Big Day Propels South Christian Sailors Varsity Past Catholic Central Varsity Cougars Maddy DeVries collected three hits in three at bats, as South Christian Sailors Varsity defeated Catholic Central Varsity Cougars 10-7 on Tuesday at South Christian High School. DeVries doubled in the second inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the seventh inning. South Christian Sailors Varsity rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the first. Catholic Central Varsity Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after M Milligan tripled down the right field line, and South Christian Sailors Varsity committed an error, each scoring two runs. In the top of the third inning, South Christian Sailors Varsity went back into the lead after Baylee Rusticus-Koning singled to center field, DeVries singled to center field, Addi Sherwood walked, and Kenlee Copeland lined into a double play, each scoring one run. Catholic Central Varsity Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to left field by A Howard. Cassidy Fisk earned the win for South Christian Sailors Varsity. The starter surrendered four hits and six runs (three earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking five. M Berrios took the loss for Catholic Central Varsity Cougars. The hurler went two innings, giving up three runs on three hits, striking out none and walking three. Rusticus-Koning appeared in relief for South Christian Sailors Varsity. Fisk collected two hits for South Christian Sailors Varsity in four at bats. Sherwood led South Christian Sailors Varsity with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game. DeVries stole four bases. South Christian Sailors Varsity stole nine bases in the game. South Christian Sailors Varsity turned one double play in the game. Next up for South Christian Sailors Varsity is a game against West Catholic Varsity Falcons on Wednesday.
