Clare High School played host to the Division 2 Team State Championship on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The meet marked a historic milestone for the Lady Sailors, representing the program's first trip to the D2 Team State competition in years. The Lady Sailors finished in 7th place with a score of 1174 points! Senior Chloe Rinzema paced the short-sprint and middle-distance crews with a phenomenal performance in the 400-meter varsity finals. Rinzema standardly outclassed the competition, crossing the finish line in 58.54 seconds to take the individual crown. She wasn't done there, anchor-legging two major relay performances. The 4x200m Relay team of Noelle Hulst, Jenna VanderLaan, Lauryn Westhouse, and Rinzema secured an 8th place finish at 1:50.84. The 4x400m Relay squad (Hulst, Julia Sherwood, Isabelle Oostema, Rinzema) clocked an impressive 4:13.04 to take 3rd place. The 4x100m Relay unit consisting of Emily Bolt, Claire LeFebre, Lila Brown, and Lauryn Westhouse sped to a 53.45-second finish. In the individual short sprints, Emily Bolt (14.21s), Lila Brown (14.26s - PR), and Lauren VanLaan (14.91s) locked down consistent times in the 100-meter dash, while Noelle Hulst led the 200-meter group with a time of 28.26s. The distance and middle-distance athletes put on a clinic, showing great pack-running strategy and recordingl personal bests. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Tiffany DeMaagd led the Sailor pack with a personal-record time of 2:26.88. She was followed closely by Lydia Huisman (2:33.18 - PR) and Ava Oostema (2:36.39 - PR), capping off a sweep of personal bests for the trio. DeMaagd doubled back in the 1600-meter run, crossing the line at 5:23.77 just behind teammate Lily VanEyk, who clocked a time of 5:22.52. The grueling 3200-meter run saw freshman Annalise Wiltjer cross the line as the top Sailor with a personal record of 12:15.51, alongside freshman Hailey Moorman who also notched a PR at 12:26.07. The distance depth was fully realized early in the meet during the 4x800-meter relay, where Hulst, Huisman, VanEyk, and I. Oostema combined to break the 10-minute barrier, finishing in a time of 9:59.45. The hurdle events yielded fantastic technical progressions. Sophomore Kaelyn Plaisier shaved time off her mark in the 100m hurdles to set a new personal record of 18.16 seconds, while Gabriella Agar led the 300m hurdle unit with a PR of 53.54 seconds, just a hair ahead of freshman Grace Klynstra (54.05s - PR). Over in the field events Ellie Pettinga spearheaded the throwing events, hitting 29' 3.25" in the Shot Put and 79' 3" in the discus. Makenzie Goodman achieved a personal best in the shot put with a toss of 20' 9". Julia Sherwood cleared 4' 8" in the High Jump, while Gabriella Agar hit a season-best mark of 4' 5". In the Long Jump, Lila Brown leaped 14' 5.75", followed by Isabelle Oostema (14' 0.5") and Lauren VanLaan, who landed a personal best of 13' 9.75".
