The Sailor cross country teams travelled to Riverside Park Wednesday, September 30 for the second OK Gold Jamboree of the season. It was a soggy afternoon with steady rain and mist but the temps were favorable and the Sailors showed up ready to race, coming off a 12-day break from competition. The SCHS varsity boys took first place with a score of 46 points, incorporating a team development strategy, which was successful in yielding personal best times for 3 of the top 7 runners. The team was led by senior Josiah Rozema in 5th place with a time of 17:28. Sophomore Hudson Kemper was second for the sailors in 7th place with a time of 17:42, followed closely by sophomore Nate Zondervan in an 8th place personal best time of 17:43. Rounding out the top 5 were 12th place Freshman Teddy Leugs and Sophomore Gage Roodvoets in 17th, both running personal best times of 18:12 and 18:20 respectively. Winning the race was junior Tiffany DeMaagd with a time of 19:18, followed closely by second place sophomore Lily VanEyk in 19:20. A trio of sophomores rounded out the top 5 for the sailors with 7th place Noelle Hulst running a time of 20:01, Isabelle Oostema in an 8th place time of 20:22 and Hailey Moorman in 9th with a time of 20:35.
