South Christian Cross Country Teams Compete in Bulldog Invitational

The Sailors traveled to Otsego High School to compete in the 25th annual Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The course is notoriously flat and fast, the invitational draws top Division 2 teams, and the crisp, fall weather was ideal for racing, setting up a perfect scenario for fast times. The sailors rose to the challenge, putting up multiple personal records across the boys and girls teams. Junior Tiffany DeMaagd boldly raced to new girls school record, breaking the previous 14 year record by more than 3 seconds! The boys varsity team finished in 11th place out of 24 teams with a score of 295 points. Senior Ben Verlin finished strong, crossing the line first for the sailors in 17th place with a time of 16:16. Right on his heels was sophomore Hudson Kemper in 18th place with a personal best time of 16:17. Senior Josiah Rozema also ran a personal best time of 16:31, as the third Sailor finisher in 29th place. Rounding out the scoring top 5 runners were freshman Teddy Leugs (118th, 18:17) and Nate Zondervan (126th, 18:28.) The girls varsity team finished in 4th place out of 24 teams with a score of 147 points. New school holder Tiffany DeMaagd led the way for the sailors in 8th place with a personal best time of 18:13. Sophomore Lily VanEyk was second across the line in 16th place with a time of 18:53. Sophomore Noelle Hulst ran a massive personal record of 18:54, finishing in 18th place. She was followed by sophomore Hailey Moorman in 46th place, with another huge personal best time of 19:50. Rounding out the score for the sailors was sophomore Isabelle Oostema, finishing in 59th place with a time of 20:27. The boys’ junior varsity team finished in 13th place with a score of 326 points. The team was led by freshman Henry Hulst in 40th place with a time of 19:05. Freshman Will Buckingham was next in a personal best time of 19:23 for 53rd place. 82nd place freshman Everett Quakkelaar also ran a personal best time of 19:54. Rounding out the score for JV boys were sophomore Dylan Thome (106th, 20:41) and senior Trent Ponstein (143rd, 21:56.) The girls’ junior varsity team finished in 4th place with a score of 99 points. Senior Gabriella Agar battled to finish in 10th place with a personal best time of 20:41. Sophomore Taylor Rottman ran a massive personal best, coming in second for the sailors in 17th place with a time of 21:37. Finishing third for the sailors was junior Delaney Burgess with a season best time of 21:45, earning 20th place. Sophomore Alexa DeVries finished in 30th place with a time of 22:04 and freshman Abby Scholten rounded out the scoring in 35th place with a personal best time of 22:16.
