The Sailor Cross Country teams finished the regular season by competing at the Kalamazoo Christian Comet Invitational on Saturday, October 18. The well-groomed course with flat straight stretches led to a fantastic morning of racing. Coming fresh off wins at the OK Gold Conference Championship earlier in the week, the South Christian teams still raced competitively. The SCHS men’s team earned a 2nd place finish with a score of 86 points. The men’s team was led by junior Ben Verlin who finished in the 7th position with a time of 16:54. Junior Josiah Rozema was the next Sailor finisher, in the 11th spot, with a time of 17:11. Freshman Hudson Kemper was the 3rd Sailor to cross the finish line in 13th place with a time of 17:13. Senior Rex Jackson (17:45; 23rd) and freshman Logyn Kelly (18:27; 34th) rounded out the top five finishers for the Sailor men. The SCHS women’s team finished in 1st place with a score of just 19 points. The ladies were led by sophomore Tiffany DeMaagd who handily secured the 1st place spot with a time of 18:53. Freshman Lily VanEyk finished next for the Sailors in 3rd place running a time of 20:01. Freshman Noelle Hulst was the 3rd runner to cross the line in 4th place with a time of 20:07. Senior Lydia Huisman (20:13; 5th) and freshman Annalise Wiltjer (20:18; 6th) were the 4th and 5th runners to make up the remaining varsity score. The South Christian Cross Country teams will have a home course advantage on Saturday, October 25 where they will compete in the MHSAA Regional Championships! Go Sailors!
