In the last Friday game at the old 68th street gym, the Boys Varsity Basketball team welcomed the Wyoming Wolves as part of Winterfest at South Christian. The Sailors came out firing, hitting shots from all over the floor, building a 27-7 lead after 1 quarter. The 2nd quarter went back and forth, SC still leading by 18 at half, 41-23. The Wolves upped the defensive pressure in the 2nd half and slowly climbed back in and eventually took the lead 65-64 with under a minute to play. SC Junior Conner Kok made a free throw with 7 seconds left to send it to over time. In the extra session, with the score 72-70, Kok again went coast to coast to tie it with 11 seconds left. Wyoming Senior Peyton Harley then hit a step-back 3 at the buzzer to complete the comeback and give the Wolves a 75-72 victory. Leading South was junior Luke Schrotenboer with 18 points, Kok finished with 17 and junior Peyton Vis scored 13. It was a great crowd for Winterfest with a lot of alumni coming back to watch the Sailors. South (8-6, 5-4) next goes on the road to take on East Grand Rapids on Tuesday at 7:00.
