The South Christian girls basketball team hosted their first home game of the season on Friday night as the Lady Bulldogs from Byron Center made the short trip to South. The Lady Sailors came out firing on all cylinders as they raced out to a 17-0 lead to start the game thanks to hot shooting and pressure defense. Hats off to the Lady Bulldogs as many teams would have folded after such a poor start, but they played hard and physical and went into halftime only down by 10 points. As foul trouble, turnovers and cold shooting plagued South through the 3rd quarter and much of the 4th, Byron Center was rolling to take the lead with 3 minutes left in the game. But South would dig deep in the final minutes of the game and finish with a 12-4 run to close out the victory 55-49. Gabby Timmer led the way for South on Friday night with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Mariel Bruxvoort dropped in 13 points and pulled down 7 boards. Kenzie Selvius chipped in 7 points and Beth Lanning would add 7 rebounds in the winning cause. South Christian is now 2-0 on the year. South will travel to East Kentwood on Tuesday night to take on the Lady Falcons.
