South Christian traveled to Coopersville on an emotional Monday night for the first round of Regional play. South would have to overcome a partisan crowd as they took on the host Lady Broncos. The game started out with cold shooting from both teams, but the Sailors got things rolling as freshman Sydney Vis put up 10 of the Lady Sailors 12 points in the 1st quarter giving South a 12-6 advantage. It would be a back and forth contest from there, as Coopersville cut the Sailor lead to 2 points at halftime. The 3rd quarter would see more of the same, as both teams answered the others play. Kendra Kuiper hit a big three pointer in the waning moments of the 3rd, but the Lady Broncos would answer with one of their own to tie the game at 37-37 as the buzzer sounded. Coopersville was able to take the biggest lead of the game for them, 3 points, a couple minutes into the final period, but another Sydney, Sydney Cleary, would hit one of her three 4th quarter 3s to tie the game back up. Another 3 by Cleary would give South a lead they would not relinquish as Cleary would drain two sets of 1-1s with less than a minute to play to seal the South victory. Cleary lead SC with 21 points to go with her 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Vis would finish with 18 on the night, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Emily Brinks put up 6 points and pulled down 8 rebounds, while Addyson VanSolkema would lead South with 10 rebounds and 6 assists. It was an inspiring night as the Lady Sailors came together for a great team victory. South will look to extend its’ season even further as they will take on Muskegon Oakridge Wednesday night at 6:00pm at Coopersville High School in the Regional Final. Come out and support your Lady Sailors!
