South Christian’s girls varsity set off to Coopersville on Wednesday night in pursuit of a Regional Championship. In a rematch of last years Regional finale, South would need to get past Muskegon Oakridge to capture their crown. A solid game plan and a tough group of girls would get the job done. Oakridge, coming in ranked 10th in the State in Division 2, would take the early lead finishing the 1st quarter up by 2 points and would extend their lead out to 5 at halftime. SC came out swinging in the 3rd, outscoring Oakridge 18-7, with the help of Sydney Vis and her dominance on the offensive glass and 11 points in the quarter. Oakridge opened the 4th quarter with the first 5 points to cut South’s lead to 1 with a lot of game to play. The Lady Sailors would stay resilient, make just enough free throws and come away with a couple huge offensive rebounds at the end of the game to take home the Regional Title, 48-42. Vis would lead South with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Emily Brinks added 8 points for South and Sydney Cleary put up 7 points, pulled down 10 boards and dished out 4 assists in the contest. South will now head to the State Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at Hope College facing 3rd ranked Hamilton. Tip off at 7:00pm. Come out and support your Lady Sailors as they look to continue their playoff run!
